Paint it Red
Paint it Red is a contemporary portrait of Easterhouse, a district in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Easterhouse is, perhaps unfairly, synonymous with social deprivation, a history of gang violence, addiction issues, high unemployment and low life expectancy rates.
This series features extracts from a year-long photography project that was developed through conversations, interactions and experiences within the area and with its people. The work sought to ask questions about the lives of older Scottish men, loneliness, lack of solidarity, and where they seek refuge and companionship. The work explores the local landscape; the social history, its personalities and the human spirit that contribute to this once notorious and still misunderstood area of Glasgow.
